Case Summary:
An inpatient admitted with bowel obstruction becomes severely septic, secondary to a perforated bowel. Unit staff should identify the change in status, call for help early, continuously monitor the patient, and carry out interventions until the MRP arrives and the patient is transferred to a higher level of care.
